Wordle Clouds in Education

I’ve been fiddling around with wordle. It is a simple but effective tool with some potential uses for teachers. Essentially, it creates a web cloud from words used in websites, blogs, documents etc, and highlights the most used words by making them larger than less used words. Pretty basic, yes, but also a powerful tool to encourage more reflective teaching.
Wordle Reflection
I encourage teachers to ‘feed’ the following documentation into wordle to build different web clouds:
1. Your CV,
2. A school policy connected to your area of teaching,
3. A piece of curriculum you have written, and
4. Your professional blog. (You can connect any blog with a feed)
Are you happy with the focus? Does the wordle seem to reflect your core beliefs? Are you surprised by any words revealed? If so, why? Would you like to change your focus?
Words really are very powerful tools…what do yours say about you?
My blog wordle is displayed on my Learning Gems blog but I have included the wordles for my CV and some documentation for a library program I created below:

Considering how much time I spend with computers, exploring Web 2.0 tools etc I’m surprised they do not feature more in my wordle. Perhaps I need to start ’selling’ this major aspect of professional self!
